At the bar, we will be offering a very special version of our Fat Dog Stout for Valentine’s Day weekend. This beer will be on the hand pump and flavored with chocolate and cherries. This will be the ultimate dessert beer, and the subtle sweetness would compliment a wide variety traditional dessert dishes. Be sure to stop by the pub and try one. Some special Valentine's day drinks include the Rose Royale, a split of champagne laced with Chambord garnished with candied rose petals served in a tulip glass, the Cupid's Cosmopolitan with Three Olives Raspberry vodka, cranberry juice, Raspberry liqueur and a splash of Grand Marnier served in a martini glass with a wedge of lime, and Chef Jim Carr's Lovers' Float made with Haagen Daaz ice cream floating in a 14 ounce Pilsner glass.

Save the date for Stoudt's Beer Dinner on Friday March 26 at 7 p.m. Enjoy 5 courses specially designed by

Tuesday February 16 in the Pub

Our Fasching Karneval will be held in the pub on Shrove (Fat) Tuesday February 16, from 6-9 p.m. Fasching is a German style Mardi Gras, a time for people to let loose and be wild before the somber period of Lent. This tradition can be traced back to Roman pagan festivals when masks were worn, allowing the social classes to mix anonymously. Prizes will be given for the best masks. Guests will get an advanced premier tasting of our Karnival Kolsch,a free fasnacht and enjoy music by Jazz Katz, featuring Chip on bass and Andy on guitar.

Our new spring seasonal beer, Karnival Kolsch is arriving just in time for our Fasching Karneval . We are very excited about the release of this beer. For the first time in Stoudt’s history, we are releasing a brand new beer that has already received a medal at the Great American Beer Festival. This refreshing German-style ale was brewed using 2-row malt, a small amount of red wheat malt, and all German hops for bittering and aroma. This straw colored ale is smooth like a lager due to the colder fermentation temperature and extended cellaring time. It is dry and crisp with a slight fruitiness which compliments the mild hop bitterness and aroma. This light ale is a fresh complement to most foods, but in particular fish, chicken, and salads. Karneval Kolsch will be available at your local distributor soon.

WONDERFUL GOOD MARKET

Order your fasnachts now by calling 717-484-2757. Fasnachts can be picked up at clocktower/Wonderful Good Market on Sunday, February 14 or Fat Shrove Tuesday, February 16.

A fasnacht, similar to a doughnut, is a Pennsylvania Dutch yeast-raised potato pastry that’s deep-fried in lard. They are traditionally made and eaten on Shrove (Fat) Tuesday, the day before Lent, to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, and butter. It is traditional farm lore that to consume a Fasnacht on Shrove Tuesday will bring good luck and a plentiful harvest in the new year. Our recipe contains some of Eddie's Breads wild yeast culture and is a recipe handed down through the family. We recommend sharing this Wonderful Good Pennsylvania Dutch tradition with all of your neighbors, co-workers and good friends. Happy 2010 and a prosperous harvest to you and your kin.
